SUMMARY:Joint CLIVASH2k and AntClim21 workshop
LOCATION:Cambridge\, UK
DESCRIPTION:
Please see below for details of an upcoming CLIVASH2k workshop, which wi
ll be in collaboration with AntClim21.

Climate Variabi
lity in Antarctica and the Southern Hemisphere in the past 2000 years</stro
ng>
Tuesday 4th- Wednesday 5th September 2018
British An
tarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK.

CLIVASH2k is a PAGES 2k proje
ct, which aims to improve our understanding of large scale modes of climate
variability and the mechanisms and drivers of climate change in Antarctica
, the sub-Antarctic and the wider Southern Hemisphere during the past 2000
years. Investigating how large-scale modes of atmospheric circulation, such
as the Southern Annular Mode (SAM) and the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillatio
n (IPO), influence the climate in Antarctica and the Southern Hemisphere on
 a regional scale.

AntClim21 is a SCAR research programme which aims
to deliver improved regional predictions of key elements of the Antarctic a
tmosphere, ocean and cryosphere for the next 20 to 200 years and to underst
and the responses of the physical and biological systems to natural and ant
hropogenic forcing factors.

These two groups are coming together for
a 2-day workshop investigating climate variability in Antarctica and the So
uthern Hemisphere over the past 2000 years.

The
workshop goals
The workshop is open to all. We want to engage
a broad spectrum of the scientific community, including paleoclimate both
data gathers (such as ice cores, lake sediments, marine records, and terres
trial records), climatologists and climate modellers.

We especially e
ncourage those who wish to actively contribute to the CLIVASH2k and AntClim
21 project goals, including contribution to synthesis products and publicat
ions. The workshop will be informative but be prepared to get involved!

Our aim is to review and evaluate our current understanding of the drive
rs of Southern Hemisphere climate variability, through short presentations,
 posters and discussion sessions.

Register for t
his event
Standard registration fee £65 per person

Stud
ent fee £15 per person (for students currently enrolled for a PhD)

Cl
ick here to register: <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/clivash2k-wor

n refreshments, buffet lunch and an evening dinner (3rd September).

&
nbsp;

Travel grants: A small number of travel grants
will hopefully be available for participants. Priority will be given to Ph
D students and those from developing countries. Please indicate when regist
ering if you require financial assistance.

Speci
al issue: In association with this workshop we have a special issu
e of Geosciences. We invite you to submit high quality original research ar
ticles and reviews on climate variability in Antarctica and the Southern He
misphere over the last millennia.

For more information please visit t
