DESCRIPTION:<pre>We are glad to announce the 2nd edition of the postgraduate course on 
 "Glaciology of the Southern Andes, by Instituto Argentino de Nivología, Gla
 ciología y Ciencias Ambientales (IANIGLA- CONICET), that will be held in Me
 ndoza, Argentina, 1-7 August 2016.APPLICATION DEADLINE: 1 July 2015The cour
 se is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the physics of glacie
 rs with examples from the Southern Andes. Due to his extent, the Southern A
 ndes (22°S-54°S) span a broad range of both latitude and altitude. This dic
 tates a large range of temperature and precipitation conditions, resulting 
 in a significant climatic diversity that host numerous and different types 
 of glaciers. We will exploit these differences to get a better understandin
 g of the importance of glaciers and glacier changes in local to regional hu
 man activities.        Key topics include:       •Climatology of the Southe
 rn Andes       •The history of glaciology and glaciological discoveries alo
 ng the Southern Andes       •Glacier mass balance and hydrology in the Sout
 hern Andes       •Glacier dynamics, surging and tidewater glaciers in the S
 outhern Andes       •Remote Sensing in glaciology       •Glacier geology al
 ong the Southern AndesDuring the course, lectures will be given each mornin
 g and the concepts will we consolidate with computational exercises, each a
 fternoon, based on examples from the different climatic regions of the Sout
 hern Andes. In addition, a field excursion of two days to the Parque Provin
 cial Aconcagua will be organized in which all the student could get a close
 r look of the field techniques need to retrieve mass balance and glacier dy
 namic data.The course is taught in Spanish by glaciologists from IANIGLA an
 d is intended for postgraduate students with research's subject related wit
 h glaciology. Also, graduate students or technicians from public or private
  agencies related to the management of mountain hydrology or natural resour
