 		</script> </p><p>Organizers invite registration for the 2018 Arctic Summe
 r Institute titled Arctic Law, Science, and Policy. This pass/fail, two cre
 dit or Certificate of Completion course will take place <strong>18-22 June 
 2018 in Portland, Maine.</strong></p><p>The goal of the course is to provid
 e students with an interdisciplinary knowledge base and the tools to practi
 cally and responsibly participate in Arctic affairs.</p><p>Climate models p
 redict that within ten years the Arctic will be virtually ice-free for at l
 east several weeks during the year and the pace appears to be accelerating.
  Abrupt climate change is producing Arctic warming and generating new shipp
 ing routes, business opportunities, and access to resources in ways that af
 fect states, Indigenous peoples, the Arctic environment, and more. Effectiv
 e participation in this new Arctic requires a unique combination of knowled
 ge and skills.</p><p><strong>Course topics will include:</strong></p><ul><l
 i>Arctic science</li><li>Law of the Sea,</li><li>Maritime shipping,</li><li
 >Geographic information systems,</li><li>Maritime history,</li><li>Indigeno
 us peoples,</li><li>North Atlantic trade,</li><li>Governance and environmen
 tal Regulation,</li><li>Geopolitics and maritime security, and</li><li>Arct
 ic Public Engagement.</li></ul>
