SUMMARY:1st Polar Microbes Symposium 2018

DESCRIPTION:This small symposium (40 participants) is intended to provide a unique oppo
 rtunity to bring together molecular microbial ecologists specialized in dif
 ferent organism groups, share our latest results, and discuss methodologica
 l problems as well as the future prospects in the field, including practica
 l international collaboration. The environmental focus will be on sea ice e
 nvironments, but excellent research in other cryospheric environments will 
 also be considered for participation. The methods to be discussed will focu
 s on 'omics' techniques, ranging from single cells to metagenomes, but exci
