DESCRIPTION:The Netherlands Polar Committee of NWO and APECS Netherlands are pleased to
  invite you for the annual Symposium of the Netherlands Polar Programme, to
  be held on 8 December, 2017 in The Hague. The central topic of the symposi
 um is:\nThe value of International Collaborations and Networks in Polar Res
 earch\nThe 2017 annual symposium of the Netherlands Polar Programme (NPP) a
 ims at highlighting the importance of international collaborations and netw
 orks in polar research. Networking and collaborations are essential for the
  future of polar research in the Netherlands, from early career researchers
  looking to develop networks for research opportunities to the provision of
  large-scale international research programmes to address pressing scientif
 ic questions in polar regions. Speakers from different career stages and va
 rious disciplines are therefore invited to discuss the many aspects of inte
 rnational partnerships, collaborations and communication that can lead to a
  successful, commended and cost-effective polar research programme. We welc
 ome you to the annual symposium to discuss and celebrate these concepts, an
 d to increase the links already in place within the polar community. \n \nM
 anfred Reinke will share his extensive experiences in international network
 s as the former Executive Secretary of the Antarctic Treaty. Stef Bokhorst 
 from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will talk about his collaborations wi
 th multiple international partners and why these are essential for his scie
 nce and journey home from the Antarctic. Henrik Christiansen from the Unive
 rsity of Leuven will share his experiences as chair of APECS Belgium and ea
 rly career scientist in (inter)national networks. Many more presentations a
 bout international collaborations and networks in polar research will be sc
 heduled and an interactive workshop will provide a different perspective on
  networking within the polar community.\nThe symposium will be held on 8 De
