SUMMARY:4th Snow Science Winter School
LOCATION:Col du Lautaret\, France
DESCRIPTION:The 4th Snow Science Winter School takes place at Col du Lautaret, France,
from Feb. 11-17, 2018. You will learn:\n• State-of-the-art snow measurement
techniques (measurement of specific surface area by reflection and spectro
scopy, near-infrared photography and high-resolution penetrometry and micro
-tomography)\n• Understanding the physical processes responsible for the ev
olution of the snowpack\n• Understanding vertically resolved snowpack model
s (Crocus, SNOWPACK) and larger scale land-surface models\nAny graduate stu
dent or post-doc working on snow or in some snow related field is welcome t
o participate.\nThe focus of this workshop lies on alpine snowpacks, field
measurements and snowpack models combined with theoretical lessons in the c
lassroom. Field and laboratory measurements will be done in small groups of
3-4 students. Each group of students will have to prepare a report describ
ing the methods, results and interpretation, and a comparison between field
measurements and snow modelling results.\nMore information: http://www.slf
