SUMMARY:27th International Polar Conference
LOCATION:University of Rostock\, Gemany
DESCRIPTION:The German Society for Polar Research invites you to the 27th International
Polar Conference to be held at the University of Rostock, Germany, to disc
uss changes in the cold regions and resulting consequences.\n\nThe cold reg
ions of the Earth – Arctic, Antarctica and the high mountain ranges – are e
xposed to fundamental changes due to global warming and direct anthropogeni
c pressures. The Arctic sea ice as well as glaciers in Greenland and Alpine
mountains are not only losing huge areas, but also habitats for many uniqu
e organisms depending on the cold habitats. The terrestrial permafrost is t
hawing leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions. However, these change
s ranging from loss in cryospheric extent to coastal erosion or neobiota ha
ve many but yet unknown consequences for polar physico-chemical, biogeochem
ical and geological processes as well as for polar organisms and their ecos
ystems.\nThis conference will be the next event in the series of polar conf
erences organized by the German Society for Polar Research (DGP e.V.) every
2.5 years.\nWe will welcome contributions in all fields of polar and high
mountain research. It is also planned to address the interested public by e
vening lectures and further events.\nThe 27th International Polar Conferenc
e 2018 will be taken place at the University of Rostock being the oldest un
iversity in the Baltic region. Furthermore, the Hanseatic City of Rostock w
ill hold its 800th anniversary in 2018.\nDeadline for registration and subm
ission of abstracts: 15 December 2017\nFurther information can be found on
 the DGP conference website. (https://polarforschung.de/events/27th-internat
 ional-polar-conference/)\n
