DESCRIPTION:<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>The German Society for Polar Research 
 invites you to the 27th International Polar Conference to be held at the Un
 iversity of Rostock, Germany, to discuss changes in the cold regions and re
 sulting consequences.<br /></strong></p><p>The cold regions of the Earth – 
 Arctic, Antarctica and the high mountain ranges – are exposed to fundamenta
 l changes due to global warming and direct anthropogenic pressures. The Arc
 tic sea ice as well as glaciers in Greenland and Alpine mountains are not o
 nly losing huge areas, but also habitats for many unique organisms dependin
 g on the cold habitats. The terrestrial permafrost is thawing leading to in
 creased greenhouse gas emissions. However, these changes ranging from loss 
 in cryospheric extent to coastal erosion or neobiota have many but yet unkn
 own consequences for polar physico-chemical, biogeochemical and geological 
 processes as well as for polar organisms and their ecosystems.</p><p>This c
 onference will be the next event in the series of polar conferences organiz
 ed by the German Society for Polar Research (DGP e.V.) every 2.5 years.</p>
 <p>We will welcome contributions in all fields of polar and high mountain r
 esearch. It is also planned to address the interested public by evening lec
 tures and further events.</p><p>The 27th International Polar Conference 201
 8 will be taken place at the University of Rostock being the oldest univers
 ity in the Baltic region. Furthermore, the Hanseatic City of Rostock will h
 old its 800th anniversary in 2018.</p><p>Deadline for registration and subm
