 f the U.S. (ARCUS) is pleased to announce the next Arctic Research Seminar 
 Series event featuring Mia Bennett, UCLA PhD candidate and the Cryopolitics
  blog founder and editor. The event will be held in the ARCUS D.C. office a
 t 1201 New York Avenue, NW Washington D.C. on Friday, 14 April 2017 at 12:0
 0-1:00 p.m. ET.</p><p>This seminar will also be available as a <strong>webi
 nar live-stream</strong> for those unable to attend in person.</p><p><stron
 g>Registration is required for this event.</strong></p><p>The ARCUS Arctic 
 Research Seminar Series brings some of the leading Arctic researchers to Wa
 shington, D.C. to share the latest findings and what they mean for decision
 -making. These seminars will be of interest to federal agency officials, co
 ngressional staff, non-governmental organizations, associations, and the pu
 blic.</p><p>Bennett’s seminar titled "Development on Ice: Social and Econom
 ic Impacts of Arctic Transportation Infrastructure” will discuss the mechan
 isms connecting northern communities to regional and global transportation 
 networks.</p><p>Mia Bennett is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geograp
 hy at UCLA and founder and editor of the Cryopolitics blog. Her research ex
 amines the drivers and impacts of contemporary Arctic industrial developmen
 t by merging fieldwork, policy analysis, and remote sensing. Currently, she
  focuses on transportation infrastructure projects in Canada's Northwest Te
 rritories and the Russian Far East. Mia received an MPhil in Polar Studies 
 from the University of Cambridge, where her research focused on the roles o
 f China, Japan, and South Korea in the Arctic. She speaks French, Swedish, 
 and Russian and has traveled extensively in the Arctic, from the Greenland 
 Ice Sheet to northeast Russia. She shares photographs from her journeys on 
 her blog and can be followed on Twitter @miageografia.</p><p>This event is 
 a brown-bag lunch that will be held in the ARCUS D.C. office (1201 New York
  Avenue, NW Washington D.C. Fourth Floor). Cookies and beverages will be pr
 ovided. A live webinar is also available to those unable to attend in perso
