SUMMARY:Past Antarctic Ice Sheet Dynamics (PAIS) Conference 2017
LOCATION:Trieste\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:Abstract submission deadline is 10 May 2017 for the next SCAR/Past Antarcti
c Ice Sheet (PAIS) conference (http://pais-conference-2017.inogs.it/) that
will be held in Trieste, Italy from 10-15 September 2017.\n\n\nThis is an i
nternational conference organized by OGS in collaboration with the Universi
ty of Trieste, the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ITCP), The
World Academy of Science (TWAS), CNR-ISMAR and supported by SCAR, Univ. of
Victoria and also by PNRA, IUGG-IACS and IUGG-IAPSO.\nThe aim of the confe
rence is to present recent results that address still open questions in und
erstanding the sensitivity of the Antarctic Ice Sheet and its contribution
to past and future sea level and climate change (<a href="http://www.nature
 .com/news/polar-research-six-priorities-for-antarctic-science-1.15658" targ
 et="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kennicutt M.C., Chown S., et al., Nat
ure, 2014</a>).\nAn important development in understanding and predicting A
ntarctic ice-sheet behaviour has been the validation and testing of ice she
et models on past climates with boundary conditions that are relevant to fu
ture projections.\nWhile the focus of the conference will be on the latest
developments in paleo-ice sheet and climate reconstructions using data and
models, we also invite researchers and students from geodynamical, climatol
ogical, glaciological, oceanographic, ecosystem and ice cores communities,
since their work is crucial for understanding the processes and dynamics of
the integrated system.\nFor more information, please visit the Conference
 website (http://pais-conference-2017.inogs.it/).\n
