Besides, we encourage you to take part in the activi ty “Youth Visions on Arctic Sustainability” Workshop (14th June). The event is designed as a space for Early Stage Researchers interested in Arctic is sues of social and environmental sustainability to collaboratively reflect on the challenges faced by the region and on how to devise possible solutio ns. Participants are invited to email abstracts of 300-500 words describing the topic they will address in their paper, together with a short biograph y/motivational presentation of 200 words max. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 8 May 2023. We ca ll for papers that address the following question from a youth perspective:

How to promote and ensure justice as well as social and environmental sustainability in the deployment of economic activities in t he Arctic?

Papers should be clearly focused on one part icular thematic that can include the following:

The current and potential place, role and impact of youth participation in Arc tic decision-making processes
The relations between gender and sust ainability issues
The question of intergenerational justice in the context of Arctic development
The interplay between Indigenous peop les, Arctic development and Arctic sustainability
Any of the econom ic sectors analysed by JUSTNORTH: transport (private and/or public; road, r ailway, maritime); energy (renewable and non-renewable); tourism; resources extraction (mining, oil, gas); fisheries; social development; traditional economies and livelihoods.

On the day of the event, selected parti cipants will be given 5-10 minutes to present their initial ideas and/or dr aft. These presentations will be followed by discussion and by a workshop i n which participants will have the opportunity to work with leading researc hers from the JUSTNORTH team to develop and polish their papers. Final pape rs will subsequently be published in a collective publication.
