DESCRIPTION:<p>The Arctic Centre invites registration for their Winter School. The them
 e of the Winter School is <em>Our Connection with a Fast-Changing Arctic</e
 m>, and will take place 16-20 January 2023 in Groningen, the Netherlands.</
 p><p>Hosted by the Arctic Centre, the Winter School is aimed at (inter-) na
 tional civil servants and policy makers, politicians, managers, financial e
 xperts, (young) academics, and PhD students who are looking for a nuanced a
 nd wide-ranging understanding of the Arctic.</p><p>During the week, lecture
 s, discussions, and group work will take place in which topics related to t
 he theme will be addressed from an integrated perspective on a sustainable 
 society.</p><p><strong>General topics addressed in the lectures will includ
 e:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Climate Change</strong>: climate forcing gas
 ses, Arctic amplification, ice caps and sea level rise, polar vortex, and m
 itigation and adaptation;</li><li><strong>Arctic Ecosystems</strong>: sea i
 ce as platform for life, permafrost, carbon pools, trophic mismatch, specie
 s extinction, and grazing;</li><li><strong>The Indigenous Peoples of the Ar
 ctic</strong>: overview of the different Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic, 
 colonial history and decolonial actions, and Indigenous Peoples as rights h
 olders;</li><li><strong>Governance and Science Cooperation</strong>: UNCLOS
 , treaties, wilderness concept, and pollution;</li><li><strong>Sustainable 
 Development and Business</strong>: Arctic Economic Forum, tourism, shipping
 , natural resource exploitation, and economic development.</li></ul><p><str
