SUMMARY:Methane in a Changing Arctic - CAGE International Conference
LOCATION:Tromsø\, Norway
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the ‘Methane in a Changing Arctic’ International C
onference that will be hosted by the Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environ
ment and Climate (CAGE) at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø, b
etween 14-16th September 2022.\nThis conference aims to bring together scie
ntists working on all aspects of Arctic methane and its role in the global
carbon cycle. It will provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussion and
exchange of knowledge relating to our current understanding of these compl
ex systems and their response to and impact on, the rapid environmental and
climatic changes that characterise the Arctic.\nCONFERENCE THEMES\nThe con
ference will address themes including the formation, storage, cycling, tran
sport, release and budgets of methane through the Arctic geo-, hydro-, cryo
 - and atmosphere since the onset of Northern Hemisphere glaciation and towa
rds the future. There will be a strong emphasis on integration of these the
mes, and we encourage all relevant contributions to the following topics:\n
\n - Methane in the geosphere: subsurface thermogenic, (a-)biogenic and met
hane stores and sinks\n - Methane in the hydrosphere: methane processes and
budgets in marine and lacustrine settings\n - Methane in the cryosphere: m
ethane dynamics in ice sheets and permafrost\n - Methane in the atmosphere:
methane source, sinks, and budget in the atmosphere\n - Microbial cycling
of methane: the role of microbes in methane budgets\n - Past methane histor
ies: past methane processes and budgets as analogues for future climate sce
