SUMMARY:The Willi Dansgaard Centenary Symposium
LOCATION:Copenhagen\, Denmark
DESCRIPTION:We invite the ice-core and climate research community to join a 3-day sympo
sium in Copenhagen on August 29th-31st, 2022 (https://nbi.ku.dk/english/for
 m/the-willi-dansgaard-centenary-symposium/), hosted by the <a href="https:/
 /nbi.ku.dk/english/research/pice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ice and C
limate Research Group at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen</a>.\nWilli
  Dansgaard (1922 – 2011) was a pioneer of isotope glaciology and ice-core-b
ased climate research. The climate agenda makes his research contributions
more relevant today than ever, and ice cores remain pivotal for understandi
ng the climate system.\nThe symposium consists of two parts:\n - A scientif
ic symposium on Monday and Wednesday in the classic conference style with s
cientific presentations by both invited keynote speakers and participants s
elected based on submitted abstracts. We particularly welcome contributions
within Willi Dansgaard's work areas: climate reconstructions by isotope me
asurements, ice-flow modelling and dating, and the study of abrupt climate
change.\n - A symposium with dual focus on Willi Dansgaard’s life and work,
and highlights of recent climate research takes up the Tuesday, Willi Dans
gaard’s birthday. In the afternoon, we conclude with a formal celebration s
ession with invited participants from the Royal Family, the Danish and Gree
nlandic political system, university leadership, research foundations, and
Willi Dansgaard’s family, friends, and colleagues, followed by a reception
and dinner.Invited speakers include Jim White (US), Valérie Masson-Delmotte
(F), Dania Achermann (D), Joel Pedro (AUS), Christo Buizert (US), Michel C
rucifix (B), Peter Huybers (US), Minik Rosing (DK), and Maiken Lolck (DK).\
