SUMMARY:The Arctic Institute conference "Polar (In)Securities: The Future of Global Affairs in the Circumpolar North"
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:The Arctic Institute is putting on a virtual conference in June and is curr
ently accepting abstract submissions.\nConference title: Polar (In)Securiti
es: The Future of Global Affairs in the Circumpolar North\nDates: 8 - 10 Ju
ne, 2022\nThe Arctic Institute (TAI) proudly celebrated its 10th anniversar
y in 2021. Our mission is to help inform Arctic policy in the context of th
e climate crisis, and we believe that circumpolar decision-making must be b
ased on interdisciplinary, inclusive research. As we begin our second decad
e, we see an opportunity to broaden our mission, and proudly announce our f
irst conference with traditional paper presentations, scenario workshops, a
nd special sessions.\nThe climate crisis destabilizes traditional understan
dings of security in the Arctic. Many conferences and scholars have produce
d invaluable scholarship that seeks to understand how climate change affect
s security, regional development, and social and Indigenous welfare in the
Arctic. We choose to upend the narrative by reframing our central question.
How will global developments affect the circumpolar north? We offer gradua
te students and early career scholars a call for papers to address this que
stion by applying different forms of security studies on global issues that
affect the circumpolar north.\nWe welcome university students and early ca
reer scholars who seek to cultivate new networks and interdisciplinary conv
ersations related to Arctic scholarship. We welcome submissions on topics s
uch as (but not limited to): Arctic studies, Indigenous knowledge, global a
ffairs, international relations, political science, security studies, histo
ry, economics, anthropology, sociology, public administration, and legal st
udies. The outcomes of the roundtable discussions and special sessions will
be summarised in a report on The Arctic Institute’s website.\nThe deadline
for abstracts for Day 1 is March 10, 2022. Please submit an anonymous abst
ract of up to 400 words (in PDF form) here: https://forms.gle/Lmbhfx126EB1o
33E8. When filling in the form, we kindly ask you to register your interest
for participating in Day 2 and Day 3. Those with accepted paper proposals
must submit a full draft to The Arctic Institute on May 31, 2022. Please no
