The Arctic Institute (TAI) proudly c elebrated its 10th anniversary in 2021. Our mission is to help inform Arcti c policy in the context of the climate crisis, and we believe that circumpo lar decision-making must be based on interdisciplinary, inclusive research. As we begin our second decade, we see an opportunity to broaden our missio n, and proudly announce our first conference with traditional paper present ations, scenario workshops, and special sessions.
The climate crisis destabilizes traditional understandings of sec urity in the Arctic. Many conferences and scholars have produced invaluable scholarship that seeks to understand how climate change affects security, regional development, and social and Indigenous welfare in the Arctic. We c hoose to upend the narrative by reframing our central question. How will gl obal developments affect the circumpolar north? We offer graduate students and early career scholars a call for papers to address this question by app lying different forms of security studies on global issues that affect the circumpolar north.
We welcome university students and early career scholars who seek to cultivate new networks and interdisciplinary conversations related to Arctic scholarship. We welcome s ubmissions on topics such as (but not limited to): Arctic studies, Indigeno us knowledge, global affairs, international relations, political science, s ecurity studies, history, economics, anthropology, sociology, public admini stration, and legal studies. The outcomes of the roundtable discussions and special sessions will be summarised in a report on The Arctic Institute’s website.
The deadline for abstra cts for Day 1 is March 10, 2022. Please submit an anonymous abstra ct of up to 400 words (in PDF form) here: https://forms.gle/Lmbhfx126EB1o 33E8. When filling in the form, we kindly ask you to register your inte rest for participating in Day 2 and Day 3. Those with accepted paper propos als must submit a full draft to The Arctic Institute on May 31, 2022. Pleas e note, there is a registration fee of 15 USD for presenters and workshop p articipants and 20 USD for audience members. Proceedings of the conference will be published later this year.
