nce on Permafrost (ACOP2017) announce a call for registration and
abstract submissions. The conference will convene 2-6 July 2017 in
Sapporo, Japan.

The conference,
hosted by the International Permafrost Association (IPA), covers all aspec
ts of frozen ground, both permafrost and seasonal frost, and its related na
tural and technological topics.

Deadlines:
Febr

strong>Plenary Sessions are updated:

(4 July AM)
Theme:
 “Deep permafrost and global influences”
Speaker: Dr. Anna Liljedahl (
University of Alaska Fairbanks)
-Dr. Liljedahl combines field measurem
ents, numerical modeling and remote sensing to explore the storage and flow
of water within the Arctic and subarctic landscapes. Her research often fo
llows a system perspective, linking watershed-scale hydrology to permafrost
, geomorphology, glaciers, vegetation, carbon and/or climate. Based in Fair
banks, Alaska, Liljedahl collaborates with colleagues active at Canadian an
d Russian sites, while she takes advantage of doing fieldwork in her own ba
ckyard.

(5 July AM)
Theme: “Permafrost in human dimension”
Speaker: Dr. Arne Instanes (the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS))
-Dr. Instanes has a wide background from research and consulting within the
fields of geotechnical engineering and cold regions engineering. He is an
adjunct professor at the University Centre in Svalbard and Western Norway U
niversity of Applied Sciences. His major fields of work relate to: permafro
st engineering and frozen ground engineering, soil mechanics and geotechnic
al engineering, cold regions field investigations, foundation engineering,
slope stability analyses, and climate change impact assessments.

Pre- and post-conference field excursions
options will be offered, dependent on the numbers of participants,
 to the following destinations:

Daisetsu
Mountains, Japan; artificially frozen ground sites, Tokyo and Fukushima-da
iichi nuclear power plant; Mongolia; Kamchatka Peninsula; Northeast China;a
nd Mt Fuji, Japan.

For more information,
