SUMMARY:Arctic CCS: Community and Citizen Science in the Far North - Abstract submission open
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:Organizers of Arctic CCS: Community & Citizen Science (CCS) in the Far
North invite presentation abstracts for the virtual conference. This confer
ence will be held online 5-7 October 2021.\nThis free, virtual conference w
ill focus on sharing, networking, and discussing the various aspects of con
ducting community and citizen science research in the Arctic. This conferen
ce is in response to a growing community of Arctic researchers, Arctic comm
unities, and Arctic visitors that are becoming more engaged in scientific r
esearch. Conference organizers recognize that although there are many resou
rces regarding community and citizen science available online, there are fe
w venues to build a community around issues specific to the Arctic.\nThe pr
imary goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity to share knowledg
e and increase networking among researchers, community members, and other p
ractitioners of community and citizen science in the Arctic. The focus is o
n the circumpolar Arctic (e.g., it's not limited to one region, state, or c
ountry). Organizers hope to start to build a "community of practice" that c
an continue to share and learn from each other.\nThis conference will also
be an opportunity to:\n\n - Learn about the various community and citizen s
cience projects in the Arctic,\n - Share the successes and challenges of pr
ojects,\n - Discuss how the pandemic has impacted community and citizen sci
ence, and\n - Discuss and focus on what is unique about community and citiz
en science in the Arctic.Conference themes include:\n\n - Unique to the Far
North - Opportunity for presenters to share what makes their project or ac
tivity unique to the Arctic (community, data gaps, resources, communication
, feedback, etc.);\n - Lessons Learned - Opportunity to present on what wor
ked—or didn't work—in a project or activity, opportunity for others to lear
n from you, opportunity to share program/project evaluation data, opportuni
ty to share insights and experiences with science communication and partici
pants, and opportunity to share any impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on you
r project or activity;\n - All About the Data - Opportunity to share data a
nd research gathered from CCS projects and opportunity to share Indigenous
data sovereignty challenges and solutions;\n - Just Sharing - Opportunity t
o share projects or activities that might not be captured in other themes o
r topics, opportunity to look for collaborators and share resources, and op
portunity to share start-up projects and/or projects that haven't yet colle
cted any research data.Extended abstract submission deadline: 23 August 202
