 shop (CPASW) will bring together a diverse group of climate researchers, se
 rvice producers, decision-makers, and other users to accelerate development
 s in the research and applications of climate information for societal deci
 sion-making. The 2017 CPASW will be hosted by the NOAA National Weather Ser
 vice Climate Services Branch, the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and 
 Policy (ACCAP) located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and other cli
 mate services partners.\nThe 15th Annual CPASW will convene in Anchorage, A
 laska, May 2-4, 2017, with a workshop theme of “Understanding Extreme Event
 s and Decision-Maker Needs in the Context of Climate Variability and Change
 .” The workshop will address the following focus areas:\n\n - Climate infor
 mation applications at local, regional, and global scales related to prepar
 edness and management for weather and climate extremes\n - Climate services
  for coastal and indigenous communities in high-latitude areas, including t
 he Arctic\n - Best practices of observing, documenting, and communicating c
 limate information relevant for national, tribal, and international collabo
 rations\n - Service delivery coordination and decision support for planning
 , resource allocation, sustainable development, and environmental managemen
 t needed for building resilient communities\n - Changes in climate and weat
 her extremesShort-term climate variability and long-term climate change as 
 well as attribution science are cross-cutting concerns for all of these foc
 us areas, especially in preparedness activities for extreme events and supp
 orting critical decision-making for several socio-economic sectors. We invi
 te abstracts that address the use of climate data and products including mo
 nitoring, predictions, and projections in all of the focus areas listed abo
 ve, particularly for extreme events. We also invite papers highlighting bes
 t practices in the areas of communication and outreach, decision support to
 ols, and preparedness methods for advancing societal adaptation. The target
  audience for this workshop includes planners, managers, practitioners, res
 earchers, service providers, and tribal environmental coordinators and lead
 ers dealing with climate-related challenges.\nAbstract deadline is January
