 f Climate Variability and Change"</p><p>The 15th Annual Climate Prediction 
 Applications Science Workshop (CPASW) will bring together a diverse group o
 f climate researchers, service producers, decision-makers, and other users 
 to accelerate developments in the research and applications of climate info
 rmation for societal decision-making. The 2017 CPASW will be hosted by the 
 NOAA National Weather Service Climate Services Branch, the Alaska Center fo
 r Climate Assessment and Policy (ACCAP) located at the University of Alaska
  Fairbanks, and other climate services partners.</p><p>The 15th Annual CPAS
 W will convene in Anchorage, Alaska, May 2-4, 2017, with a workshop theme o
 f “Understanding Extreme Events and Decision-Maker Needs in the Context of 
 Climate Variability and Change.” The workshop will address the following fo
 cus areas:</p><ul><li>Climate information applications at local, regional, 
 and global scales related to preparedness and management for weather and cl
 imate extremes</li><li>Climate services for coastal and indigenous communit
 ies in high-latitude areas, including the Arctic</li><li>Best practices of 
 observing, documenting, and communicating climate information relevant for 
 national, tribal, and international collaborations</li><li>Service delivery
  coordination and decision support for planning, resource allocation, susta
 inable development, and environmental management needed for building resili
 ent communities</li><li>Changes in climate and weather extremes</li></ul><p
 >Short-term climate variability and long-term climate change as well as att
 ribution science are cross-cutting concerns for all of these focus areas, e
 specially in preparedness activities for extreme events and supporting crit
 ical decision-making for several socio-economic sectors. We invite abstract
 s that address the use of climate data and products including monitoring, p
 redictions, and projections in all of the focus areas listed above, particu
 larly for extreme events. We also invite papers highlighting best practices
  in the areas of communication and outreach, decision support tools, and pr
 eparedness methods for advancing societal adaptation. The target audience f
 or this workshop includes planners, managers, practitioners, researchers, s
 ervice providers, and tribal environmental coordinators and leaders dealing
  with climate-related challenges.</p><p><strong>Abstract deadline</strong> 
 is January 13th, 2017. The meeting format will include a combination of sym
 posia, panel sessions, discussions, and keynote speakers that address the w
