We are glad to announce the 4th edi tion of the postgraduate course Glaciology of the Southern Andes, by Instituto Argentino de Nivología, Glaciología y Ciencias Ambientales (IA NIGLA- CONICET), which will be held "virtually" from the 23 of Augu st to the 3 of September 2021.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: the 3 of August 2021
The course is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the physics of glaciers with examples from the Southern Andes. Due to his extent, the Southern Andes (22°S-54°S) span a broad range of la titude and altitude, which dictates a wide variety of temperature and preci pitation conditions, resulting in a significant climatic diversity that hos ts numerous and different types of glaciers. We will exploit these differen ces to understand better the importance of glaciers and glacier changes in local to regional human activities.

During the course, lectures will be given each morning. The concepts will b e consolidated with computational exercises each afternoon, based on exampl es from the different climatic regions of the Southern Andes.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 travel restrictio ns, this edition will be entirely virtual.
The course is taught in Spanish by glaciologists and climatologists fro m IANIGLA and is intended for postgraduate students with research subjects related to glaciology. Also, graduate students or technicians from public o r private agencies related to mountain hydrology or natural resource manage ment of the Southern Andes are welcome to apply.
