SUMMARY:Online Technical Training: Atmospheric measurements aboard research ships: Needs, opportunities and challenges
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:Date: 13 April 2021\nTime: 16:00 – 18:30 GMT\nCourse summary: Long-term con
tinuous ground-based atmospheric observations are strongly constrained by l
and distribution and are still very limited over the sea, particularly in p
olar regions where fixed installations (buoys) are limited by sea ice. Ship
-based atmospheric measurements can potentially close an important knowledg
e gap, particularly with the aim of validating satellite observations and a
tmospheric models. This course explores the challenges of taking atmospheri
c measurements on research ships. A team of experts will introduce and mode
rate a discussion of relevant topics, the opportunities arising from new te
chnologies and concrete examples of best practices. The overall aim is to c
ommunicate the possibility of organizing research ships expeditions as mult
i-domain observing platforms, which is necessary if we want to elucidate th
e most important mechanisms and processes that drive the climatic system in
the Arctic.\nFor further information and to register, please visit the .\n
