SUMMARY:Arctic Winter College
DESCRIPTION:The Ecologic Institute, Migration in Harmony Research Coordination Network
(MiH-RCN), and The Arctic Institute invite applications for the Arctic Wint
er College.\n \n The Arctic Winter College is a series of web-based seminar
s (webinars) that will take place on Tuesdays, 18:00-20:00 Central European
Time from 12 January to 23 March 2021.\n \n Weekly webinars, featuring div
erse experts and hosted by MiH-RCN Principle Investigator Victoria Herrmann
, will focus on the theme “Arctic on the Move.” Urbanization, globalization
, and the impacts of climate change are activating the simultaneous migrati
ons of species, ecosystems, settlements, and cultures across Arctic coastli
nes in new and unpredictable ways.\n Arctic port cities are witnessing incr
eased maritime traffic and inflow of migrant labor; rural villages are faci
ng displacement from slow and sudden-onset disasters; sea ice melt and ocea
n warming are shifting marine species ranges; and terrestrial ecosystems in
transition are upending Arctic food webs and introducing southern disease
vectors. Each of these intersecting mobilities challenge the quality of lif
e, sustainable development, and environmental health of the circumpolar nor
th.\n \n Participation in the Arctic Winter College is open to applicants w
ith ideally one to ten years of experience in social sciences, engineering,
medicine, and natural sciences, young private sector professionals, Indige
nous Knowledge, Traditional Knowledge, and humanities scholars and cultural
heritage practitioners with connections/relevance to the Arctic, including
graduate students, and a desire to share perspectives and seek professiona
l collaboration with a network of peers. The course will be conducted in En
 glish.\n \n Applicant requirements include:\n \n -Early- to mid-career prof
essionals, including students, whose work focuses on the Arctic;\n -A commi

2 January to 23 March 2021;\n -A willingness to build an active, ongoing ne
