DESCRIPTION:Due to circumstances caused by the Corona pandemic, we have postponed the c
 ourse. The new course dates are April 10-18, 2021. We expect that the situa
 tion has improved by then, but if not, successful applicants will be inform
 ed in due time.\nWe have also extended the registration date which is now M
 arch 8, 2021.\nAbout the course\n This course aims to bring young researche
 rs together across disciplines, within the broad domain of Arctic research 
 and research communication, in order to build new networks and develop comm
 unications skills. The objectives are both linked to different ongoing Arct
 ic research initiatives such as the Arctic Science IntegrAtion Quest (ASIAQ
 ) Project and Arctic Avenue, and to make a communication effort for the Tar
 fala Research Station, TRS. The course thus deals with both current Arctic 
 research as well as focuses on learning research communication skills.\nNEW
  Course date\n April 10-18, 2021, including travels to/from Stockholm, Swed
 en.\nTarfala Research Station\n Tarfala Research Station (https://www.natge
 o.su.se/english/tarfala-research-station) is a centre for Arctic alpine res
 earch at the Department of Physical Geography at Stockholm University. The 
 station is beautifully situated in Lapland in an Arctic/alpine environment.
  The research conducted here focuses on glaciology, hydrology, meteorology 
 and climate research. The station is also used as an education platform by 
 universities that wish to combine fieldwork with lectures.\nCourse content\
 n The course is primarily aimed at young scientist (MSc students, PhD stude
 nts, Postdocs) in Arctic research and is given in English. This course has 
 a transdisciplinary approach and focuses on both Arctic research and the ro
 le of communicating research.\nThe course involves a set of relevant lectur
 es and tutorials about ongoing Arctic research, TRS and communication techn
 iques. Main emphasis will be placed on group work and a final communication
  effort/product which is to be produced during the course. The course start
 s with introductory lectures from different topics. Field work, group discu
 ssions and group work will follow.\nPractical work\n Please note that the f
 ield component may involves long hikes and work during sometimes difficult 
 Arctic/alpine weather conditions. Participants are required to bring suitab
 le clothing and shoes for this.\nStudents are asked to cooperate in small g
 roups (3-4 persons) with different task of interest in the realm of relevan
 t research.\nLearning outcomes\n The course strives to improve transferable
  skills such as multidisciplinary approach and collaborative learning.\nIn 
 the end of the course the student will have\n\n - increased knowledge of cu
 rrent Arctic research and ongoing Arctic research initiatives\n - knowledge
  about different communication techniques\n - ability to understand and eva
 luate communication efforts\n - increased skills to communicate and visuali
 ze researchGrants and additional costs\n We offer grants which covers the c
 ourse fee, and parts of the travel. This includes\n\n - all academic and so
 cial program during the course\n - accommodation (shared rooms), food and l
 ogistic during the course\n - a return train ticket with the night train fr
 om Stockholm train station to Kiruna train station (this is already pre-boo
 ked for your convenience)\n - Snowmobile ride to and from Nikkaluokat to TR
 SThe grant does not cover\n\n - travel expenses to and from Stockholm train
  station and bus fare between Kiruna train station and Nikkaluokta\n - pers

 ght train from Stockholm to Kiruna, bus to Nikkalukta and then snowmobile t
 o TRS. t.\nThe snowmobile ride is 24 kilometers in mountainous terrain and 
 we will arrange drivers for you how are not eligible to drive a snowmobile 
 yourself. You can bring one backpack with personal clothing and items. Sens
 ible hiking shoes are required. Helicopter service from Nikkaluokta to TRS 
 is available, but needs to be paid individually if used.\nMaximum number of
