DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce the return of the Polar Seminar series startin
 g next Thursday (4/16) at 2:00 pm! Our speaker will be Dr. Richard Alley, t
 he Evan Pugh University Professor of Geoscience at Penn State Univ. He will
  be presenting a talk entitled "Collapsing ice sheets and the climate conve
 rsation". The seminar will be held remotely through Zoom with a meeting lin
 k to be sent out.\n\nFor over 40 years, Dr. Alley has studied ice sheets to
  help predict future changes in climate and sea level. He has authored or c
 oauthored more than 300 refereed scientific papers and has been honored wit
 h election to the US National Academy of Sciences and Foreign Membership in
  the Royal Society. Dr. Alley has testified before Congress, participated i
 n the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (co-recipient of the 200
 7 Nobel Peace Prize), and has provided requested advice to numerous governm
 ent officials in multiple administrations. He is also a renowned science co
 mmunicator, as the presenter for the PBS TV miniseries on climate and energ
 y Earth: The Operators’ Manual, and author of the book.\n
