SUMMARY:6th Polar Prediction Workshop 2019
LOCATION:Norman\, Oklahoma\, USA
DESCRIPTION:The University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology and the Cooperative Instit
ute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) organize the 6th Polar Pre
diction Workshop. The workshop will bring together diverse communities work
ing on sea ice prediction, cold air outbreaks, models with varying temporal
and spatial resolutions and various observing systems (radar, in-situ meas
urements, satellites) and those who use these products to produce weather,
seasonal to subseasonal and weather forecasts. The social and socioeconomic
impacts of Arctic weather and climate will also be discussed. The workshop
will also focus on the current state of knowledge of processes in the Arct
ic, and impacts of both processes and forecasts. The workshop will also inc
lude a keynote address.\nThe workshop will begin on Wednesday morning and e
nd Friday at noon. The keynote speaker will be Dr. John Walsh of the Intern
ational Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska.\nPresentations
will cover the topics of:\n\n - Polar predictability from weather to intera
nnual time scalesSea ice dynamics and prediction\nImpact of the Arctic on l
ower latitudes Operational and research efforts\n\n - End user needs and ca
pacity of scientific community to address them
