DESCRIPTION:JIRP is an expeditionary field science school for undergraduate and early-s
 tage graduate students interested in polar science. 30-35 students traverse
  110 km across the Juneau Icefield from Juneau, AK to Atlin, BC each summer
 , learning about field glaciology, geophysics, glacial geology, climatology
 /meteorology and a number of other cryosphere-related topics from 20 facult
 y over two months. Students also gain glacier mountaineering, wilderness fi
 rst aid, and other expeditionary training during this experience. We typica
 lly have six to eight focused research projects of current scientific inter
 est, led by faculty, in which students actively participate. Recent project
 s have focused on radio-glaciology and other geophysical studies, isotope g
 eochemistry, glacier mass balance, biogeochemistry, glacial geology, ecolog
 y, and geomatics/remote sensing. Summer-long field research student project
 s supervised by the faculty will culminate in presentations at AGU or other
