SUMMARY:CESM Polar Modeling Workshop
LOCATION:Boulder\, Colorado\, USA
DESCRIPTION:With funding from National Science Foundation’s Office of Polar Programs [N
SF OPP], National Center for Atmospheric Research is organizing a 1-week lo
ng CESM Polar Modeling Workshop August 13-17, 2018 in Boulder, Colorado at
the National Center for Atmospheric Research Mesa Laboratory. The website i
s here: http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/events/workshops/2018PMWS/\nThe workshop w
ill target ~15 early career (graduate student, postdoc, < 7 years since
Ph.D.) polar scientists to attend. All workshop activities will focus on th
e Community Earth System Model and high performance computing supported by
the National Science Foundation [NSF] at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Ce
nter [NWSC]. CESM Polar Modeling Workshop participants will gain hands-on e
xperience planning, designing, executing, and analyzing earth system modeli
ng experiments using high-performance supercomputing. Participants will eng
age in advanced activities focused specifically on capacity building for us
ing CESM in polar research (e.g., sea ice, land ice, atmosphere, ocean, lan
d, paleoclimate). The CESM Polar Modeling Workshop will follow directly fro
m the Annual CESM Tutorial held August 6-10, 2018. Prospective participants
who have not attended the CESM Tutorial should apply for both the CESM Tut
orial and the CESM Polar Modeling workshop. Prospective participants who ha
ve previously attended the CESM Tutorial (or have equivalent experience) sh
ould apply for just the CESM Polar Modeling Workshop.\nAll US-based partici
pant expenses will be paid by the organizers (including travel to and local
expenses in Boulder, Colorado).\nFor the application process - We request
