SUMMARY:ESA Cryosphere Remote Sensing Training Course
LOCATION:University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) in Longyearbyen\, Svalbard
DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND\nAs part of the Earth Observation (EO) Science for Society – Sci
entific Exploitation element of EOEP-5 program, the European Space Agency (
ESA) is organizing an advanced training course on remote sensing of the Cry
osphere, devoted to train the next generation of scientists and specialists
to exploit EO data for science and applications.\nPARTICIPATION\nPostgradu
ate-level, PhD students, post-doctoral research scientists and users from E
urope and Canada interested in applications of remote sensing of the Cryosp
here are welcome to apply to the 6-day course, held at University Centre in
Svalbard (UNIS) in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, from 11 to 16 June 2018.\nParti
cipants from all other countries are also welcome to apply, subject to avai
lability of places.\nFEES\nNo participation fees will be charged for the tr
aining. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommoda
tion expenses. The official language of the course is English.\n\nOBJECTIVE
S\nThe Advanced Cryosphere Training Course aims at:\n\n - To train the next
generation of scientists on Remote Sensing of the Cryosphere;\n - To provi
de an advanced understanding of theoretical principles, processing algorith
ms, data products and their use in applications;\n - To give hands-on pract
ice with tools and methods for satellite data exploitation as well as field
work experience for in-situ cryosphere-related data collection;\n - To prov
ide insights of EO challenges/opportunities within the polar context for fu
rther studies. For more information, please visit: http://eoscience4society.
