SUMMARY:International Workshop on Glacial Isostatic Adjustment and Elastic Deformation
LOCATION:Grand Hotel Reykjavik\, Iceland
DESCRIPTION:Abstracts are invited for presentation at the, International Workshop on Gl
acial Isostatic Adjustment and Elastic Deformation, to be held September 5-
7, 2017, at Grand Hotel Reykjavik, Iceland.\nThe abstract deadline is exten
ded to Friday June 16, 2017. Abstracts must be submitted following the webs
ite instructions.\nList of abstracts received to date is now available: ftp
 ://ftp.spacecenter.dk/pub/abbas/gia2017iceland/abstract_list_dd.pdf\nRegist
rations is open until August 2, 2017.\nTheme\nPast and present changes in t
he mass balance of the Earth's glaciers and ice caps induce present-day def
ormation of the solid Earth on a range of spatial scales, from the very loc
al to global. Of principal interest are geodetic observations that validate
, or may be assimilated into, models of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA)
and/or constrain models of present-day ice mass change through measurements
of elastic rebound. Using geometric measurements alone, elastic and viscoe
lastic deformations cannot be separated without additional models or observ
ations. The conference will focus on resolving these issues and work on dis
semination of these measurements within the glaciological community.\n\nSes
 sions (full details: <a href="http://www.polar.dtu.dk/english/workshop-on-g

anges in glaciers, ice caps and ice sheets and the associated Earth deforma

Measurement and Models of Elastic Rebound\nConveners: Jeff Freymueller, Mir
ko Scheinert, Tonie van Da\nSession 3. Glacial isostatic adjustment on a he
terogeneous Earth\nConveners: Wouter van der Wal , Natalya Gomez, Tom James
\nSession 4. Reconciling models and observations of GIA\nConveners: Pippa W
hitehouse, Bas de Boer, Terry Wilson\nBoth Oral and Poster sessions will be
held.\nTravel support\nThanks to generous funding from the SCAR SERCE prog
ramme, The European Space Agency (ESA), and the Technical University of Den
mark (DTU), there are funds available to part-support a limited number of a
ttendees. These will be awarded after the abstract submission deadline and
preference will be given to early stage researchers and scientists from a S
CAR nation with an emerging Antarctic programs, and to participants involve
d in ESA projects or using ESA data. All supported attendees must present a
t the workshop. Applicants must indicate that they are requesting travel su
pport at the time of abstract submission.\nRegistration Fee and Accommodati

ract submission deadline: June 16, 2017\nFinal detailed programme: June 30,
