Through a series o f summer schools, the project will engage graduate students in exploring sc ience questions related to Arctic challenges.\nDuring this first Norwegian Field School, students will participate in a remote sensing and ship-based field school at Svalbard and Tromsø. The course is divided in two closely r elated segments, starting with a one-week field course on board R/V Lance t o the marginal ice zone in and around Svalbard, where the participating stu dents will receive introductory lectures and collect in-situ and remote sen sing data to be analyzed in the subsequent segment.\nThe second week will t ake place at the Centre for Integrated Remote Sensing and Forecasting for A rctic Operations (CIRFA), located within the Faculty of Science and Technol ogy, Department of Physics and Technology at UiT-the Arctic University of N orway. This part of the course will cover analysis of data collected in the field and additional archived data. The participating students will have t o submit an individual report or an oral presentation at the end of the sch ool, and will be able to earn credits for participation based on an assessm ent of the work.\nThe class will be offered as a two-credit University of A laska Fairbanks (UAF) summer course and students willing to earn credits ne ed to enroll for the class.\nTravel grants (amounts will be determined late r) will be issued by IARC to cover round-trip international travel costs fr om USA to Tromsø, Norway, as well as travel between Tromsø and Svalbard.
