Title: Arctic Sky Nastapoka Islands Hudson Bay Nunavik
Painted in acrylic and gel on four canvas panels, this work depicts the ever-changing Arctic sky above the Nastapoka Islands along the east coast of Hudson Bay. The mythical qualities of the enchanting landscape and awe-inspiring skies have long commanded my attention. I hope that through my paintings, others will similarly be drawn to contemplate this formidable yet fragile environment.
I was instantly captivated by the Arctic during my first field studies in 1974; this sense of awe has not diminished in the 40 years since. Over the decades, I have been fortunate enough to have worked in and with many communities across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut to study infrastructure in permafrost and remediation of permafrost-affected soils. The experience has left me with a lasting respect for the North and its people.
