The studentship project is to work on testing friction of rubber on snow and will involve: characterisation of the snow surface, friction testing, interpretation of the experimental results and analytical materials modelling. A strong interest in advanced experimental techniques is particularly welcome. The studentship will suit a well qualified person with a good honours degree in engineering or physical sciences. You will join an innovative group working on ice mechanics, tribology and materials. Our work includes: fundamentals of ice and polymer friction, snow mechanical properties and winter sports engineering.
