Natural Resources Department Resource Specialist Position
Association of Village Council Presidents
The Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP) invites applications for a Natural Resources Department Resource Specialist in Bethel, Alaska.
This full-time, permanent positon is responsible for assisting with all components of the AVCP Natural Resources Program which includes biology, natural resources, forestry, fire hazard, and agriculture. The position is open to all applicants, however the successful candidate must be able to reside in Bethel, Alaska.
This position will remain open until filled.
This position may be responsible for staff management under the guidance and supervision of the Director and acts as Acting Natural Resources Director during the absence of the Director.
Typical in-house duties include:
Maintaining contact with all outside entities to monitor and ensure AVCP participation in management decisions affecting the Yukon-Kuskokwim (Y-K) Delta region;
Broadening cooperative relationships between tribal interests, associate agencies, and governmental entities;
Providing outreach and information to area residents and general public;
Travel to appropriate meetings within and outside the region, representing AVCP interests and activities on subjects pertaining to natural resource issues;
Prepare routine reports and assist in pursuing program funding; and
Help coordinate and manage Forestry and Fire Preparedness and Agricultural Development programs for native allotments and restricted town site lots within the AVCP service area.
This position requires a thorough understanding of the culture and needs of the Tribes of the Y-K Delta region. Strong written, oral, organizational, and analytical skills are required and Yup’ik/English speaking ability is preferred. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel aboard small planes.
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and training which provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position, with two or more years of specialized experience in natural resources. Cold weather tolerance or substantial winter gear is strongly recommended.
